Elastaseal 2000 Series Butyl Tape is a composition of cross-linked butyl rubber elastomers, resins and adhesion promoters yielding a very flexible product with excellent water, ozone, UV and temperature resistance.
This innovative compound is a user-friendly hand applied material designed for sealing windows, entrance and baggage doors and a variety of moldings. Typical substrates are engineered plastics, fiberglass, coated and uncoated metals. Typical uses for Elastaseal:
- Metal rib and end joints
- Standing seam roof end laps
- Sealing roof curbs, roof jacks, and skylights
- Window and door flanges
- Sealing air conditioning equipment
- Sealing moldings
Overview
What's So Amazing?
Elastaseal is designed to seal and prevent the entry of dust, air and moisture through joint details found in siding, roofing and moldings in recreational vehicles and manufactured housing. Elastaseal is white in color and contains no VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) or plasticizers, and is asbestos-free. Also:
- Superior adhesion compared to other butyl tapes
- Provides a watertight seal
- Non-staining
- Remains permanently flexible
- Resists ultraviolet and infrared radiations and extremes in temperature
- Excellent adhesion to metals, plastics and painted surfaces found in RV and manufactured housing details
- Easily compresses

Seal Design and Dicor Corporation focus on the people and companies that use our products. This includes products, support and services that help improve the production process:
- Elastaseal easily and cleanly trims with a blunt tool. It will not bleed, exhibit contact stains or sag. This No Sag elastomer requires minimal installation trimming or compression sag trim processing.
- Elastaseal is packaged in recycled corrugated cartons. Seal Design will pick up your corrugated cartons weekly and issue a two percent recycle rebate quarterly.
Technical Data
Weatherability: Elastaseal 2000 is 100% solids with a specific gravity of 1.65. Elastaseal exhibits excellent weatherability in a QUV accelerated age testing parameter. Under 340A lamps for 1000 hours, Elastaseal 5000 showed no visible signs of cracking, chalking, wash-off or flow (sag).
Low Temperature Flexibility: Elastaseal 2000 exhibits no cracking at -60° F per ASTM C 765. Elastaseal 2000 has a service temperature range of -30° F to 180° F.
Water Resistance: Elastaseal 2000 has excellent resistance to water. Tested under AAMA 800 specifications, no effects were obtained.
Accelerated aging tests against leading competitor
Elastaseal was tested against a leading competitor. Tapes were applied to aluminum panels placed into a QUV weathering unit alternating between 4 hours at 122° F with condensation and 8 hours at 140° F with ultraviolet light. Specimens were exposed for four weeks, or 720 hours.
Oil migration was tested according to ASTM C772. Two specimens of each tape were exposed to the following conditions: two at 77° F for 14 days, two at 180° F for 14 days, and two in UV chamber for 14 days.
Elastaseal was found to have minor to no effect from weathering over the four-week test. Surface remained intact. Competitor’s tape was found to be dried up, with evidence of surface deterioration.
For oil migration, Elastaseal was found to have little or no evidence of bleed out, while competitor was shown to have three to five times more bleed out.
Limitations
Elastaseal not recommended for:
- Continuous immersion
- Joints that are not mechanically fixed
- Wet or frost bearing surfaces
- Direct contact with any other sealant or elastomer without a compatibility test conducted before use
- Use on contaminated surfaces such as excessive oils, caked on dirt, free-standing water and ice, frost or snow
